Microsoft has recently release office 2007one of the biggest changes you will see is in how you set up outlook. Below are the general settings for how to setup your account.
Important note: know what type of account you need. If you check your email on multiple machines, it is advised you use IMAP - Basically it keeps a copy of your messages on the server. We will give you the basic steps to set up either type of accounts below. With any type of account make sure you keep your mail box as lean as possible. I every month have many clients who call me because they have let their inbox grow out of control, and it kills the Database file for Outlook. So please try to keep track of your messages, and don't let the box get to big. (Usually I try to keep my inbox under 200 messages)
Step #1 -
The first thing you have to do in Outlook is go under tools / account settings. and then click create new account.
Step #2 - Once you have clicked on new (You may have to delete out any accounts which were auto imported) click on the lower left hand check mark called "Manually configure server setting or additional server types". There is no reason to go through the wizard!.
Step #3 -Type in your name and e-mail address, and then select account type . The account type will either be a IMAP account or POP3 . POP3 pulls messages off the server and is quick, best choice for checking e-mail with 1 computer. IMAP is the choice if you check your e-mail with many computers. enter your login info -
This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
and your password. DONOT CLICK ON SPA!!!!! After that click on more settings!!!
#4 - If you are using an IMAP account - under general you probably will want to use the purge messages option. But all clients should click on outgoing server tab. Our servers require all uses to use authentication to send email. So click the box, and put in your username and password. DO NOT CLICK ON SPA!!!
Lastly, under advanced you will need to change outgoing mail port to 587 for outgoing messages.
We do allow for SSL connections to the server, if you want to use those settings, please see the email help document called "email ports and settings"
